Fans of European-style road racing will appreciate this look at the lives of those daredevils who make their way around the tracks of France, Italy, and Germany. Helmed by veteran action director Henry Hathaway, THE RACERS was the first big-budget Hollywood treatment of motor racing, and its very exciting racing footage almost compensates for the slim plot. Kirk Douglas stars as the Italian Gino, whose ambition to become a champion racer overrides all scruples. He becomes involved with Nicole (Bella Darvi), and with her money is able to get a car and win a big race. He is soon one of the top dogs on the tour, but is hurt in a crash.
