There's a lot of dribbling going on here, and it's not all about basketball. College-graduate Juwan (Charles Malik Whitfield) has just passed the bar in Oregon and is relaxing by shooting hoops at the recreational center in his Inglewood, Calif., neighborhood, where basketball prowess is commensurate with manliness. His court companions include his buddy Lorenzo (William L. Johnson), the center's coach, Ike (Charles Robinson) and Cheryl (Marci T. House), one of the few women willing to brave the court's testosterone-heavy atmospere. Though estranged from his kid brother, Reggie (Arlen Alexander Escarpeta), Juwan tries to convince Reggie that his volatile friend, T-Bone (Sticky Fingaz), is bad company. Sure enough, T-Bone is soon mixing it up with white lawyer Rick, (Robert David Cochrane), a one-time college player who's now a lawyer at a prestigious firm; Rick infuriates T-Bone by using homeboy lingo and balking at paying up when his team loses. Then there's a mix-up over what happened to the cash winnings, someone shoots big-mouthed T-Bone and Rick discovers his car has been vandalized. Rick takes off on foot after he sees Reggie with a gun; Reggie wings Rick and justifies himself by arguing that Rick's panic must mean he murdered T-Bone. With the coach's permission the players hold a makeshift trial, with Reggie pressing for the death penalty. Perhaps the person who lifted the winnings knows who shot T-Bone; this impromptu jury is well aware that T-Bone had lots of enemies. The question is whether Reggie weigh the evidence impartially or will try to persuade the others to join his rush to judgment against Rick. All the world's a game in this variation on 12 ANGRY MEN, in which lawyers, guns and money rule the day but the guy who shoots isn't necessarily the one who scores. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
