The Phony American

German comedy-melodrama detailing the activities of WW II- orphan Hinz as he bounces around from one surrogate family to another. He is first adopted by an American pilot who is later killed during the Korean War. As a teenager, Hinz is adopted by a German family and falls in love with his stepsister Kaufmann. Wanting desperately to join the US Air Force, Hinz steals a uniform and gets hold of phony documentation so that he can join up. The trick works and he's on his way, with the help of Bendix, a friendly sergeant.
