A neurotic writer of gothic novels (Groves) manages to rid herself of her agoraphobia by finally leaving her Manhattan townhouse--only to move to a haunted Victorian mansion that was once a brothel. The ghosts of the prostitutes reveal themselves and show her, in slow motion, the massacre that ended their lives. Groves finds herself being used by the ghosts to get even with their murderers. Directed by one-time pornographic filmmaker Weston, THE NESTING is an intriguing effort that effectively combines traditional haunted-house chills with a more modern emphasis on gore. Weston also managed to assemble a solid cast, with veterans Carradine and Grahame (in her final role as the ghost of the brothel madam) lending a bit of class to the proceedings. leave a comment
