Another lackluster film biography of the musical genius, Mozart, this time produced by Austrians. Holt does well as Mozart, and brings some energy to his portrayal of the brilliant young composer. Emphasis is not on the tragic aspects of Mozart's life, but his successes. The film is filled
with musical excerpts from "The Magic Flute," "Requiem," "Don Giovanni," and "The Marriage of Figaro," performed by the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera. Originally filmed in Austria in 1939, the film had scenes added in Hollywood for its US release in 1948. The songs are in German,
but the dialog is dubbed in English.
