This film, based on the short story by Thomas, is set in Wales during the turbulent WW I. period. The probing and often insightful feature effectively interweaves the incidents that helped to forge greater class consciousness--aiming at individual, as well as group, involvement.
Demanding material was handled well by an unknown cast, with atmospheric photography that captures a sense of the times.
