Michael Mann delivers James Fenimore Cooper into the 1990s, complete with roaring cannons, whizzing tomahawks, spectacular landscapes and lavish battle scenes. Daniel Day-Lewis stars as Hawkeye, a frontier woodsman more at home with his adopted Mohican father (Russell Means) than the white British colonials. Hawkeye rescues Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe) and her sister, Alice (Jodhi May), from the hateful Huron brave Magua (Wes Studi).
