This well executed, taut drama deals with German prisoners in an Allied POW camp, a rare subject in American films. Keith is an Irish intelligence agent sent to Camp McKenzie in Scotland. After a prison riot is quelled with fire hoses, Keith suspects it was merely a ruse to distract attention from an escape plot. This theory is proven to be true after Janson, a homosexual prisoner ostracized by his fellow inmates and severely beaten during the riot, mumbles something about an escape.
