Blake Edwards' remake of Truffaut's 1977 comedy falls short of the original--and of what Edwards is capable of creating. Burt Reynolds is David, a sculptor who is an incurable womanizer. He pays a visit to a psychiatrist, Marianna (Julie Andrews), in the hope of removing a creative block he's been experiencing; instead, he falls for her and she for him. Although Edwards may have been attempting a humorous study of man's frailties, this clumsily done comedy suffers from a lack of originality in its story line, its comedy routines, and its pat answers. leave a comment
