In this new twist on an Old West story, Reynolds plays a man on the run after murdering his wife's killer and rapist and committing a robbery with outlaw pals Warden and Hopkins. Miles is fleeing her abusive husband, Hamilton. She's attracted to Reynolds' strength, his quiet, reflective
manner, and his devotion to the memory of his Indian wife, Cat Dancing. She spends a good part of the movie being dragged, beaten, and almost raped by Warden and Hopkins, but slowly she and Reynolds fall in love, and she travels across country with him to the Indian village where his son lives.
