Sam Posner (Philip Bosco), who was 10 minutes too late to catch a plane that crashed and left no survivors, is inspired to reassess his life as a result of this miraculous near-miss. Bosco is very convincing as Sam, the rich, hard-nosed garment factory owner, who, in the film's first five minutes, is shown trying to dodge a union representative and getting nasty with his wife (Doris Belack), his mistress (Joanne Camp), a dressmaker, and his chaffeur (Arthur French). After avoiding the crash, Sam tries to figure out why he was spared. Not unlike Ebenezer Scrooge, Sam then sets out to right all the wrongs he's committed.
