This amiable comedy features Hayward as an Irishman who finds his wealth rapidly disappearing. In order to save himself, he hocks his stately manor and bets it all on his horse during the Grand National Steeplechase. There are some good Irish tunes as well as a funny bar scene. The ensemble
is made up of the members of the Belfast Repertory Company, who know how to play off each other. Pedelty made his directorial debut with this film after working his way up from being Paramount's London film scout.
