This fine, overlooked film stars Carney as Ira Wells, an aging private eye whose former partner, Harry Regan (Duff), is murdered while tracking down a missing cat for Margo Sperling (Tomlin). A sometime dealer in stolen goods, she suspects her pet has been nabbed by an associate whom
she's failed to pay. At the urging of Charlie Hatter (Macy), Ira picks up where Regan left off, and he and Margo do a Nick and Nora Charles number as they piece together the complex clues that lead to the cat and climax of this intriguing mystery. Along the way, Margo begins to find herself
attracted to Ira, but he doesn't return her affection--at least at first.
