A garbage heap of apocalyptic movie cliches in which survivors of a 9.5 Los Angeles earthquake must survive both natural and human dangers. In 2006, a massive quake transforms California into an island and lawlessness reigns supreme. Army captain Nick Preston (Dolph Lundgren) watches over a group civilian survivors entrusted to his care, assisted by feisty Air Force captain Sarah McBride (Sheri Alexander) and plucky Marine sergeant Lucky Simko (Joe Michael Burke). Meanwhile, death-row desperado Jesus (Juliano Mer) takes over a prison whose inmates all used to work for a pharmaceutical company. Jesus sets about establishing his own world order, harvesting narcotics and drugging the convicts into peyote-induced submission. While Lucky, Nick, and Sarah go off on a reconnaissance mission, hoping to find antibiotics with which to treat a post-quake plague, Lucky's restless wife, Candy (Rebecca Cross), runs off with another soldier, Private Jasper (Ishai Golan). What no-one realizes is that Jasper is actually in cahoots with Jesus. Making matters worse, an itinerant milkman blabs to Jesus that Nick's fortress contains fresh water, a priceless commodity. Next thing you know, it's a fight to the finish as Nick's confederates must rescue Candy (now a guest at the prison) and obliterate Jesus's army of substance-abusing felons. Can Nick's rag-tag and outnumbered crew defeat the organized scumbags and find their way to civilization? Lundgren fans will no doubt enjoy his he-man hijinks. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
