This western adventure in the style of Sam Peckinpah has Coburn escaping from jail and seeking revenge on ex-lawman Heston, the man who put him in jail and killed Coburn`s wife. To draw Heston out of retirement, Coburn kidnaps his daughter, threatening to rape her. The story is a rough
and realistic portrait of the final days of a Wild West being subdued by civilization. Heston is an archaic type of hero, but his approach is the only one that can meet Coburn's. The cast gives believable and realistic performances, with script and direction contributing a sleekness, although the
underlying messages receive undue emphasis.
