The planet is on its last legs. Finch plays a rebellious scientist with potential answers to society's problems. But in his selfishness he creates a new messiah through a child by Runacre. The result is an apelike monster. The special-effects crew create a believable surreal world, but
the material is handled in a mishmash of styles, garbling any possible message. The cast is solid, though ill used.
