This polished version of the standard western tale has Ford as the town sheriff with the "fastest gun in the West" reputation. Everett is a young gunslinger out to kill Ford and capture the title. Seeing himself in the young Everett, Ford tries to dissuade him, but the youngster is intent
on a gunfight. Dickinson is the saloon hostess who wants to keep Ford alive. The cast gives credible performances, and the direction keeps the action evenly paced. The first picture directed by Thorpe after 44 competent years behind the camera.
