Heywood portrays a nun in 17th-century Italy who finds herself passionately responding as she is being raped by a nobleman, Sabato. Later she is stricken with guilt over her behavior and has Sabato arrested. She soon finds herself pregnant and, after giving birth, Heywood arranges for his
escape from prison. They once again begin their illicit relationship, which continues until a nun who witnessed their lovemaking is found dead. Heywood is sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of having sexual relations and of being an accomplice to murder. Pretty sleazy.
