This murder yarn has Morgan as a criminal lawyer defending a man for killing his wife during a fit of jealousy. In the meantime Morgan discovers that his own wife, Carroll, is unfaithful. Modestly budgeted at $260,000, the film features an intriguing script and is beautifully directed by
James Whale, with a strikingly European look throughout. The performances are generally quite fine, with the courtroom scenes particular highlights. Remade by Whale as WIVES UNDER SUSPICION (1938).
