In the midst of a revolution, a king (George Arliss) desires to return to the simpler life he had with the wife he forsook upon taking the throne. His present wife, the queen (Florence Arliss), grants him leave, hinting at her own possible suitor. He meets his former wife, Gateson, only
to discover her surrounded by the grotesque splendor he wanted to escape. The king returns to his queen to find her alone in a humble cottage, where the two presumably live out their lives. Though George Arliss delivers a commendable performance with the given material, the script remains lacking
and plodding.
