The Kindred

For what begins as a fairly promising low-budget science-fiction effort, THE KINDRED suddenly goes awry and collapses in the last half. John Hollins (David Allen Brooks) is a young scientist whose dying mother (Kim Hunter) begs him to destroy a brother he knows nothing about. A hideous tentacled creature and a crazed genetic scientist Rod Steiger) provides clues to what Mom was talking about. While THE KINDRED does boast some decent performances and fairly interesting character interaction, the plot is overly complicated and unengaging. and the special effects by Michael McCracken, Sr. are wildly uneven.
