Robert Aldrich's filming of a bitterly witty play by Frank Marcus earned notoriety in 1968 for a lesbian sex scene that was unprecedented in its frankness. THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE describes the erosion of a same-sex love affair between a closeted soap opera star (Reid) and a neurotic nymphet (York). Memorably and sometimes hilariously bitchy.
