A minor league thriller with a cliche ending. The acting is all excellent and much of the dialog crackles, but the final result is not worth the wait. Todd is an author who is running off with Norden, the wife of Gauge, his publisher. Todd is married to Hobson, but he and Norden leave on a train to find a new life with each other. When Todd thinks he may have made a mistake, he pulls the overhead emergency cord to stop the train and leaps off. Now the train is involved in an accident and Norden is killed. We then learn that her death was not caused by the accident. She was shot in the back and there is an investigation by Walls and Truman. The killer is discovered to be Gauge, but we are told that the whole thing was (are you ready?) a dream. Yechh. The film is fast-moving and has lots of action, but that is about all that can be said for it, though Todd's and Hobson's performances are excellent. Hobson was married to the producer at the time. leave a comment
