Based on the same play that inspired John Ford's masterpiece of 1935 with Victor McLaglen in the role played here by Hansen. Seeing a chance to flee the poverty that surrounds him, the oafish but gentle Hansen decides to turn an IRA comrade in to the police. He plans to use the reward
money to flee to America with his mistress, only things don't turn out quite as planned, with Hansen haunted by guilt in the form of friends who shared the same Irish Republican ideals. Hansen was not nearly as convincing as McLaglen, nor did Robison possess the skill of Ford. Look for a brief
appearance of a young Ray Milland in his second movie role.
