This departure for Whale, the director of FRANKENSTEIN, has Ayres in the operating room as a young surgeon. When girl friend Clarke gets an appendicitis attack she is rushed to the hospital and operated on by Ayres, the only available doctor. There's no horror here, but for fans of Whale
it is interesting to see his fascination with operating-table closeups, a process that was so important in FRANKENSTEIN.
