The Illusionist: Review

This surreal Dutch film follows a magician, F. De Jonge (who also penned the screenplay), through a series of strange encounters, employing a wide variety of sight gags as it meanders toward symbolic meanings it never quite communicates. Though it is occasionally visually interesting, director Jos Stelling's film fails to live up to its advance billing (it was the recipient of the Netherlands Film Critics' Prize), falling victim to a lack of narrative coherence. leave a comment
