This fairly amusing crime comedy stars Bennett as gangster Lawrence's moll. She gets fed up with the rackets and goes home to Mother (Wood), a housekeeper for a wealthy family. Hubbard, one of the children, is an aspiring reporter anxious to land his first big scoop. By accident, he begins to unravel some clues leading to a possible murder indictment for Lawrence. Aided by veteran newshound Menjou and his photographer, Gargan (who are hanging around the kid just to bump into Bennett), Hubbard pulls the facts together while dodging mobster Lawrence's bullets. The script does some implausible gymnastics at times, but Menjou and Gargan keep the laughs coming, making this one worth sitting through. Look for a very young Victor Mature as one of the gangsters in this, his first film. leave a comment
