Based in part on the life of composer Franz Schubert, the picture has some interesting moments, but on the whole lacks real drama. Boehm falls in love with Matz and has a young baron sing her a song which he has written. Matz, however, falls in love with the baron, leaving Boehm to his
piano. Balser is cast as Beethoven who, by the end of the picture, has gone deaf, inspiring Schubert to leave his Eighth Symphony unfinished out of respect for the great Ludwig.
