The House Across The Street

This is the often-rehashed tale of a newspaperman-turned-sleuth (Morris) who takes on a big-time racketeer in order to get him behind bars. When the campaign against the syndicate causes too much trouble, the publisher of the paper, Hale, demotes Morris from managing editor to the love-lorn column. While working on the column, Morris finds a very important clue for his campaign against the mobster. With the aid of tough reporter Paige, he gets the proper dirt on the bad guy and all ends well for the former editor.
