The son of an Afghan sheik, Sharif enters a deadly game of buzkashi, a brutal version of soccer, to prove his manhood to his father, Palance. During the game, Sharif is humiliated, and his leg is badly hurt. He is taken home by his untrustworthy servant, De, and a nomadic "untouchable," Taylor-Young, but not before they must stop in an outlying town and amputate the young heir's leg at the knee.
