Toto and his son Davoli stroll through life under the watchful eye of a talking crow who asks them where they are going. While the bird squawks on and on about political and social philosophy, the man and his son become monks in the year 1200 and are commissioned by St. Francis of Assisi
to decipher the language of birds, so that they can convert the birds to God's message of love. Unfortunately, just as the man and his son have succeeded in winning over the birds, a hawk comes along and kills a sparrow. The film then shifts to modern times where Toto and Davoli find themselves
