A series of forts is being constructed to protect the crews building the railroad out West, and Morgan and Denning are two cavalry scouts sent to make sure everything goes smoothly in the hostile territory. Springfield rifles, which could be called the title character, are brought in to make sure nothing goes awry. There's a good deal of stock Indian footage inserted into the film but no one bothered to see that it matched the shooting stock. Consequently, there are a lot of mismatched tints between shots and unmatching grains. Even worse is the film's racism. Except for friendly types like Bice, the old Hollywood code "the only good Indian is a dead Indian" is the rule here. The title itself clearly indicates the ethic. leave a comment
