Faithful and convincing film of A.J. Cronin's The Green Years traces a young boy's growth to manhood in Scotland. Coburn is the lad's great-grandfather who has a fondness for the local brew and is forever getting into trouble despite his likability. Stockwell, as the youth, observes all this and is mesmerized. Drake plays the boy at an older age as he experiences the joy of falling in love and going to school. He wants to go to college but feels guilty because the tuition would come from the insurance money inherited from the deceased Coburn. leave a comment
