Decent crime drama featuring outstanding performances by Keach and Forrest as West Virginia brothers who leave their coal-mining community and go off on their own to strike it rich. Soon the hayseeds end up with gang leader Primus, and together with the klutzy Miller they pull a big armored-car robbery. Primus does a double-cross and skips town with the loot, leaving Keach, Forrest, and Miller to the cops. In the ensuing shootout, Miller is killed and the brothers take off after Primus, seeking revenge. The climax involves a massive gun battle in a decaying building that is in the midst of demolition. Good direction by Starrett, with a good script (plenty of black humor) by DAYS OF HEAVEN (1978) director Malick, who used a pseudonym because he didn't direct. leave a comment
