The Grass Harp

Southern Gothic lite. Orphaned Collin Fenwick (Edward Furlong) is sent off to live with his cousins, a pair of maiden ladies who still live in their childhood home. Verena (Sissy Spacek) is a hard-headed harpy, all sharp edges and sharper remarks, while the gentle Dolly (Piper Laurie) -- older but far less capable -- lives in a fantasy world that she shares with the impressionable Collin. It all ends poignantly. Producer-director Charles Matthau (son of Walter) bites off more than he can chew with this piece of bittersweet whimsy, based on the slender novel by Truman Capote.
