As improbable as it seems, THE GONG SHOW MOVIE is even worse than the idiotic television show that inspired it, and which exploited the "talents" of "performers" whose dignity took a back seat to their desire to break into show business. Chuck Barris, who hosted the TV show, makes a
ridiculous attempt at serious drama by portraying himself as a sensitive TV personality driven to madness by the craziness his show has unleashed. Even with this lame premise, THE GONG SHOW MOVIE remains little more than a sleazy freak show.
