In one corner, Nick Martel (Dewey Martin), a not-so-nice Golden Gloves boxer; in the other, Bob Gilmore (Kevin O'Morrison), a "Clean Gene"; and looking on, the real prize, Patti Riley (Kay Westfall), the referee's daughter. Gilmore wins the fight, but Martel is left with both a new outlook
on life and the love of Patti. Real Golden Gloves footage livens up the proceedings, which include appearances by former middleweight champ Tony Zale, Golden Gloves founder Arch Ward, and longtime Chicago sportscaster Jack Brickhouse, who plays a ringside announcer.
