Palmer's desire to return to the stage is forbidden by husband Hasse, mainly because this rich industrialist is too insecure to allow his wife to run around with free-wheeling theater people, especially playwright Van Eyck. When Palmer's passions are not met, Hasse winds up losing his wife
completely. Despite a highly emotional performance by Palmer and a fittingly stiff one from Hasse, the material remains desperately uninteresting.
