The second melodramatic film adaptation of Gene Stratton Porter's novel of irrational hatred, this time starring Nelson as the vengeful mother who mentally and physically tortures her hated daughter Clifton because she blames the child for the death of her husband. The narrative plays
along the same lines as the earlier version, and it is only the performance of Clifton (who attempts to steer clear of histrionics) that separates this from its predecessor.
