Ho-hum. Period biography of Emily Dunning Barringer, THE GIRL IN WHITE depicts her struggle to join the male-dominated medical profession as a doctor in 1902. Related in a semidocumentary style, the film follows Emily (Allyson) through medical school to New York's Bellevue Hospital.
Whoever cast Allyson should have been interred there. A large portion of the film concentrates on the ins and outs of medicine at the turn of the century, which may add to the picture's verisimilitude but does little to enhance its entertainment value.
