The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing

This film re-creates the sensational 1906 murder of Stanford White, famous architect, by Harry K. Thaw, infamous crackpot, on the Winter Garden roof in front of hundreds of theatergoers. Milland (as White) is shown as a dirty old man lusting after Collins, who plays showgirl Evelyn Nesbit, the wife of Thaw (Granger). The film's argument echoes that of the defense Thaw mounted with his mother's millions after the killing, which allowed him to escape the death penalty. Milland casts a covetous eye upon pretty Collins at the beginning of her showgirl career, taking her to his posh Manhattan lair, where she swings high on a red velvet swing pushed by the lascivious arc...
