Another attempt at interlocking British colonialism with horror, this unimaginative film is set in the 1920s and features Cushing as a defrocked clergyman who once spent time in India. Back in England, Cushing harbors a deep, dark family secret: his son, Henderson, suffers from uncontrollable cannibalism. Cushing keeps Henderson locked in the attic, but the lad manages to escape and terrorize the countryside during a major auto race. Meanwhile, gardener Hurt is a complete lunatic in his own right and is responsible for one death himself. Cushing and other familiar Hammer faces give this the old college try, but Francis' dull direction--endless shots of Henderson's legs creeping down the stairs--makes the cause hopeless. The film was never released in the US, later turning up on television and videotape. leave a comment
