Set in 16th-century Ireland, this lavish Disney swashbuckler hinges on the heroic attempts by Hugh O'Donnell (Peter McEnery), the newly crowned Prince of Donegal, to make good on the prophecy: "When Hugh succeeds Hugh, Ireland shall be free." In the process of uniting the Irish clans, Red Hugh falls in love with the daughter of one of his compatriots (Susan Hampshire) and is captured by the British, who imprison him in Dublin Castle. After a daring escape, Hugh and two of his comrades endeavor to liberate Donegal Castle, where his roguish English nemesis (Gordon Jackson) holds Hugh's true love. leave a comment
