An artistic period piece set in France during the reign of Louis XVI, this film is based on Alexandre Dumas' Companions of Jehu. Parker is a baron who bands together a group of revolutionaries, robs the king's tax collectors, and then distributes the loot to the poor. The plot is complicated by Parker's love for Louise, who is an aristocrat. Because of his passion for her, Parker must frequently prove his mettle to his men, though he ultimately loses their respect when he spares the life of Louise's brother, Macready, in a duel. Parker's romance with Louise is saved as the French Revolution starts, clearing up many of the social problems he fought against. leave a comment
