During WW II, Alda, Rooney, Carter, and Tupou are rescued by a British gunboat commanded by Niven. After another half-hour of running time, we find out that Niven is actually a ghost who drowned 30 years earlier in a drunken stupor. Now he wanders the seas trying to redeem himself. MGM
tried to pad this one by adding about 10 minutes of newsreel footage. This dull comedy was such a dog that the studio held up its release for almost two years. Public response was so bad the film was quickly withdrawn.
