The Element Of Crime

Vaguely impressive but amazingly pretentious, this Danish film shot with English dialog features Elphick (QUADROPHENIA, GORKY PARK) as a retired policeman living in Cairo who undergoes hypnosis to help him recall the details of the "Lotto murders" of little girls. He travels through a ravaged Europe (exactly what happened is never made clear, but it looks like the aftermath of a nuclear war). Following the advice of criminologist Knight, Elphick begins thinking like the killer and eventually becomes the killer himself.
