Modernistic retelling of the "Madame Butterfly" opera taking place in Italy and centering around the love affair between an opera singer and a composer, the latter making the decision that his career is of the foremost importance, cutting off the affair to meet with success in America.
Unknown to the man, his lover is pregnant, but manages to continue with her singing career after the baby is born. The man eventually returns to Italy, but does so accompanied by his American wife and daughter, all three of whom are present when the old lover sings "Madame Butterfly." A bit sappy
