Interesting and sometimes funny adaptation of a Mark Twain short story. Hatfield is a carpetbagger who marries the daughter of a prominent plantation owner in order to humiliate him. He mistreats his wife, but she stoically refuses to complain to her father. Finally, he ties her to a tree and lets bloodhounds tear off her clothes. The girl's father dies of embarrassment, and, shortly thereafter, she gives birth to a son who grows up into Siggins and heads west to avenge his mother. Finally, he sees his father killed by someone else. Good low-budget production, but Mekas has done much better. leave a comment
