In yet another film about a Vietnam vet who has gone crazy, Bottoms plays the title character, in the psycho ward of a veterans' hospital. He will not come to grips with his problems but withdraws from the world, building himself a booby-trapped hideaway under a nearby highway ramp.
Bottoms' hiding place, however, is discovered by the telephone company because he's been tapping emergency lines to make calls. Meanwhile, the vet falls in love with sympatheic nurse Hershey, with whom he hopes to run away to Canada. One consolation--at least the movie doesn't suggest that only
Vietnam veterans go off the deep end. There are crazy vets from WW I and WW II in it as well.
