A flawlessly executed, beautifully designed genre parody. Danny Kaye, in his best film, stars as a lowly valet who rises to become the leader of a peasant rebellion aimed at restoring the rightful heir to the throne of England. He disguises himself as a court jester to gain access to evil
baron Rathbone, the real power behind the throne, and overthrow his oppressive rule. Genius cast handles the laughs with dash and aplomb, but the real surprise is Rathbone, whose charmingly villainous manner and comedic timing provide the perfect foil for Kaye's antics.
